In 2020, sales in the metalworking sector reached a total of USD$5.7 billion, mainly from the subsectors of: basic metals and light manufacturing; electrical and gas appliances; machinery and equipment; and transportation equipment, where Valle del Cauca has ranked as the third region with the highest value in sales.
The sector’s exports in Colombia reached USD $1.96 billion in 2020, mainly from basic metals and light manufactures (USD $966 million), and Electrical Equipment ($410 million), which together represented 70% of the sector’s exports.
Valle del Cauca exported 6.3% of the national total for the sector (USD $219 million) and is the leader in machinery and equipment exports with a total of USD $150 million. The main destinations for Colombian exports in the sector were the United States, China, Ecuador and Mexico.
