BPO, ITO & KPO

Cali is a prosperous and stable city due to the dynamics and diversity of its economic structure. Since the 50´s, many multinational corporations and international companies established their operation in the region. There are more than 250 companies both regional and international focused on providing business process outsourcing services (BPO, ITO & KPO), that cater to the national and international markets, making Cali the perfect scenario to develop a world class industry. Additionally, the city hosts the four most important IT companies of the Country: Carvajal Tecnologia y Servicios, Open International, Compunet and Siesa.

In the year 2016 there were more than 31,500 employments in the city through BPO, KPO and ITO, near to 9% of the national industry.  As a support to the industry there were more than 25,000 graduated students from undergraduate and graduate programs during the same year in Cali, from different areas, 64% of which were programs related to the industry.

Human resources are the main asset for outsourcing service companies, therefore, the city aims to train a bilingual working force that is competitive and attractive to investors. To strengthen this resource in assisting international markets there are bilingual training initiatives. The program GO CALI has benefited more than 4,500 people between 2014 and 2016. It focuses on students and teachers from different educational institutions in Cali and is sponsored by the Mayor's Office.

The sector has grown and it will continue growing, since clusters such as PACIFIC TIC and PACIFICSHORE support companies settled in the region with digital innovation and transformation as an asset growth opportunity to be at the at the forefront thus allowing companies to obtain further income from their outsourcing operation.

Very much by the hand of outsourcing industries are the connectivity initiatives from the municipality such as the 36 centers belonging to the ICT, all enabling the community to integrate to digital transformation. The integrated municipal network covers the city with more than 800 kilometers of optic fiber, designed to empower and service the locals.  By 2018, this connectivity will transport information without territorial borders, communicating, enhancing data and making it possible for Cali to be a pioneer smart city in Colombia.
